A leading figure in Niseko's art scene.
Fine art photographer, art collector, and co-founder/co-owner of the exclusive ryokan Zaborin, a retreat where you can forget about the hustle and bustle of urban life, and simply be 'in the moment'. Shouya is also the owner of traditional kominka homes that have been renovated into the SOMOZA gallery and the SHIGUCHI luxury retreat.
Having lived in Hokkaido for over three decades, Shouya is deeply passionate about promoting the region's ancient culture and contemporary influences through this sensitive and sophisticated blend of architecture, art, and nature.
Winner of the UNESCO Prix Versailles in 2023, awarded 'Hot List 2023' by Conde Nast Traveler magazine in 2024.
Natsuki Kubo (calligrapher/artist)
Born in 1984 in Hokkaido, Natsuki began studying calligraphy from the age of 7, under the tutelage of illustrious calligrapher Zuiho Sato. She received honourable mentions at the All-Hokkaido Calligraphy Competition, the International Contemporary Calligraphy Competition
In 2014, Natsuki was invited to Chicago five times as an artist in residence, participating in both group and special exhibitions at various galleries, the Japanese Consulate in Chicago, and the CBRE Building lobby.
Natsuki also had success in live performances, such as at Links Hall, where she appeared in a three-day collaborative performance with musicians and dancers. Her works are displayed at many of the luxury hotels in Niseko, and she is widely considered one of Hokkaido's leading artists.
